...that Utah's advantage was solely P5 membership. Put us on an even playing field for 2 years and we have a shot at beating them and evenly recruiting with them. Then add to that BYU's uniqueness, and we actually have an advantage. Over time I suspect to do just as well as Utah, or even better. Utah is no different in terms of recruiting strength than Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Texas Tech, etc. They're all solid football schools but you gotta wanna go there. They have a regional recruiting base and can convince some other kids to join. Utah's sole other advantage was Whitt's success, which obviously waned this year. Put a new coach in with no guaranty of winning and Utah is exactly the same as other regional P4 members. BYU, if it stays true to its mission, will have a recruiting advantage over such schools, with an international reach and millions of LDS kids who would at least give BYU a look, and other like-minded kids / families. Different is good.
