it's not that the US government will go bankrupt, although our burgeoning debt load suggests that's an increasing possibility, it's the assumption that the program will remain intact as is. It's growing unsustainably as our birthrate falls and something needs to change with it as soon as we get a president/congress who actually has the cojones to do it.

I'm not willing to bet that SS will be around like it is today, if at all.
