1. The Kevin Young factor. People see what KY is doing and they want Kalani to do the same. Football and basketball are not the same. There aren't one and dones in football. And there are 105 players on the team as opposed to 15.
2. Keeping up with the Joneses. We want to be listed as having the top composites in the conference. Truth - our composites are going up. And you can argue that we are performing well on the field because of a great culture and great player development.
3. We could be the Kansas City Chiefs and CB fans would find something to complain about. We just went 10-2 in a power conference. I think the coaches deserve the benefit of the doubt. Could we do better at recruiting? Sure. But Kalani and his staff are doing better all the time. Just look at the composites of this class compared to five years ago.
I have also complained, but luckily I have smart sons who showed me the light. Getting good transfers is very tricky. You have to consider the people you already have. You have to consider fit. You have to consider implications on how new transfers will impact players already on the team. You may cause some of your up and coming studs to enter the portal themselves. For my vantage point, BYU has done a very good job navigating the transfer portal. Just consider the following:
1. Darius Lassister
2. Keelan Marion
3. Caleb Etienne
4. Jack Kelly
5. Marc Collins
6. Weylin Lapuaho
And that's just to name a few.
