Jeanty ran against soft defenses all year long.
He faced one top-20 defense ALL YEAR LONG. When he did (UNLV), his average was cut by MORE THAN half.
Here are the rankings of yds/rush defenses he faced:
Team Avg/rush ranking
GA Southern 119
Oregon 55
Portland St 134
Wazzou 118
Utah State 126
Hawaii 98
UNLV 19
San Diego St 107
Nevada 111
SJSU 29
Wyoming 129
Oregon State 125
Avg rank 97.5
In case you weren't keeping count. That's one top-20 defense, one top-50, two top-100, and (read it) 8 ranked in the friggin 100's.
Imagine if he had been running against top-50 defenses all year long? His season would look much differently. He would never have averaged 26 rushes per game, because he would have been injured by the end of the season and he wouldn't have been invited to New York.
He's good, but there's no argument that the schedule he ran against doesn't inflate his numbers, significantly.
