He played in a very tough conference that didn’t have the type of protection that runners get today. Defensive players got away with a lot more, including hits that would 100% be targeting and other flags, today. Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Bo Jackson, and OJ would all have put up more yards in the weakest MWC in over 2 decades.
