From what I hear it's great for recovery, bad for gains. Reduces soreness.
If you need to get ready for another game the next day, then ice bath is great. If however, you're in the off-season trying to gain muscle, get stronger, then it's detrimental. This is according to science based lifters like Mike Israeltel or Jeff Nippard. I haven't looked at the research myself.
