The 6’1” Scott Skiles was the veteran who had run the show, feeding Shaq his first year in Orlando and nearly leading the new franchise to a playoff berth. And then when Penny joined in 1993, they tried to play him alongside Skiles as a 2 guard. But Penny’s real strength was that at 6’7” and being able to handle the ball like a point, he was such a huge mismatch playing the 1 against smaller guards. You lost a lot of his advantage by playing him off ball. Eventually they transitioned Penny to the 1 and dealt Skiles and within a year the Magic made the championship game.
I see the argument for staggering Hall and Demin with Hall losing some minutes. Hall is a great player but Demin has potential to be a generational one (in BYU terms). Tough decisions for the coaches, for sure. I trust them to figure it out.
