That's where I see this going next. Despite the continued corruption, NIL, the portal, and the playoff have done nothing but bring more parity to CFB. ISU or ASU are national champions if they win out. That was unthinkable 5 years ago. Yet here we are.
If they want to increase their advantage, the blue bloods need to find more effective ways to poach the all-stars from the rest of us. With roster limits and 4 year guaranteed scholarships they rely on pressuring players to transfer in order to free up space and $$ to do that. If they really want to compete like pro teams you have to be willing and able to cut the dead weight like pro teams. The SEC is only in year 1 of their expanded league and we are already seeing a handful of big time programs becoming extremely restless about their prospects moving forward. Auburn, LSU, Florida, OU and even Bama are suddenly realizing how easy it will be for them to be left on the outside looking in every year in a small bond with lots of big fish.
They will look for every possible advantage. The day they can cut their 3rd string linebacker and call up a guy like Jack Kellly to offer him $100k raise from revenue sharing like its loose change under the couch cushions is coming. We thought that's what the portal and NIL would do but the opposite happened. I am not looking forward to them figuring out how to still make that a reality though.
