sounds like because he struggled, he is going to come back again for another year. Problem is there is a twist, TX has a young man who has been patient and sounds like they may have decided to go with him next year. So, Ewers coming back means he will enter the Portal and transfer. Yet he is the 7th highest NIL player in football, so whoever goes after him had better have deep deep pockets.
NIL probably stopped Ewers from leaving after his first year but sounds like for NFL reasons he would have been better off leaving and getting drafted higher to get more money.
Leaving now might not be a bad thing; you can go to a better team that won't suck and in desperate need of a QB and everything else. You could go say somewhere like Pittsburg where they have a great D, good O, but need a QB that can actually make throws. Or other teams where you might sit a year but get some benefit of learning the system and not have so much pressure on you.
So crazy what the NIL has done to players and college football as a whole.
