I don’t think the risk/reward situation makes sense for this.

Unless he feels a one year stop at another school will allow him to significantly improve his skill set, I don’t think it makes sense. Or if he is disgruntled at BYU.

I would think developing another year in the same system provides him with his best chance to improve.
