BYU NIL has gotten a ton more money this year - for both football and basketball. They have quite a bit at their disposal. How that's implemented between the two sports is different.
Kalani has chosen to spread his money around to give to more players and largely not give one player tons of money comparatively. I think you can find numerous quotes from him where he talks about not wanting the players that are demanding tons of money.
And, personally, I can't fault him for that thinking. I hate what college sports has become. I hate that NIL is really just a pay-to-play scheme. So, it makes sense that he wants to give everybody some money.
Unfortunately, this NIL stuff is here to stay and is the way it works. So, not forking out the money to get a QB is going to make it tough to get top talent. I'll be interested to see if he continues like this or if they'll change the mentality to go get a QB.
