I think mostly because everyone wants the Big12 to have a chance to prove itself
against other P5 schools. If a team like BYU or CU gets a shot at teams like Ole Miss or other teams that just missed the playoff, wins or even close contests vs. those programs will chip away at the narrative that the Big12 is far inferior.
