Except the CFP field isn't chosen in August, it's chosen next Sunday based on what we now NOW. You are making my point:
results matter. Record is a big part of that, but not everything. BYU has simply not been strong in November. Tonight was close, they lost the 2 previous, and a miracle pulled out the Utah win. Those results don't scream "were a top 12 team" in any way.
Because results matter - and not just record - a 3 loss S Carolina or Georgia has earned their way in over BYU.
