My neurosis? Yeah, a little bit. Still, being in a conference again, I realize
the end-of-year scenarios are something I've missed most.
One year in the MWC, there was a logjam at the top, not unlike this year in the Big12, and upon reading the actual official conference tiebreaking procedures, I discovered that there were a bunch of scenarios that the procedures simply weren't thorough enough to account for.
I sent an email to somebody or other in the conference office, explained what I'd found, outlined a few scenarios where the MWC could be in a world of hurt given a few outcomes that would leave ties unresolved. I got a very non-committal thanks for your email, but then within a few days, the conference put out a press release with "clarifications" to the tiebreakers, and even used portions of my email word-for-word to explain why they were doing it. 🤣 It ended up not mattering as I recall due to the ties never materializing, but it was still funny. And I felt good knowing li'l ol' I generated major conference policy.
