I freaking loved the Tyler Batty halftime speech, F Bombs and all. I'm sorry, but this team has lacked fire and passion since the Utah game. I'm probably in the minority here, but I absolutely HATED Kalani's post game speech after the Utah win. Respect your opponent, yes. Love them? No... Especially not your rival. Tough guys may try and love as many people as they can, but you don't need to spout off about it. It doesn't need to be, and shouldn't be your central message in every presser. Live the gospel in your life. Live the gospel before the game. Live the gospel after the game... But during the game? Nope... Football is violent. Football is a fight to the death. Football is as close to combat as you can get in any sport. Leave it at the door. Warm and ready to pick it up once your opponent has been forced into submission.

I'm convinced that Kalani's speech made this team soft. It made them forget that they're FIGHTING for BYU... It made them slip. The Sons of Helamen didn't love their enemies. They loved their families, their traditions, and their brothers.

BYU IS DIFFERENT... Before and after the game. During the game, you're there to BLOW PEOPLE UP!!! Speak with your pads, do it within the rules of the games, but make no mistake, your opponent, your enemy, isn't there to love you.

Batty's speech reignited the flame within the hearts of these players. Keep it lit. We don't love Houston. We respect them, but we need to respectfully put their butts into the dirt. Love them after you dismantle them.
