The pain will get worse and worse for the first 4-6 days…
The pain will peak as the scabbing begins to come off. Run a humidifier. Alternate ibuprofen and Tylenol around the clock every 4 hrs. Have them drink, even just a sip every hour(during the day) to keep it from drying out too much. Ask for the tetracaine lollipops-they took the edge off enough for our kiddo to be willing to drink. At its worst, she wouldn’t eat anything for about 24-36 hours. Just liquids/popsicles/slushies. But as long as they’re hydrated they won’t have to go to the ER. The pain quickly improves though once the scabbing comes off.
