Some coaches like variable tempos, with the idea that
when you really go fast it makes those plays bigger. BYU has gone tempo over the last 5-6 years with Grimes, especially after a big play.
The downside to tempo is that it will limit your formations, substitutions, and play calls. It's a trade off.
