In my lab at school, we also have a Lulzbot Taz6 that used Cura by default, but it felt so, so slow for slicing and visualizing. Maybe it has got better since then.
I have love my MK3S. It "just works". I am pushing 500 days of print time in the last 5 years (about a 30% total utilization rate) and have mostly just done basic maintenance (nozzles, librication, belts, etc). Still going strong. The one big upgrade I had to do was that I was printing a ton of large polycarbonate parts for a consulting job and with the prolonged high heats in an enclosure the original PETG printhead parts started sagging. I re-printed them in polycarbonate and they have been going strong ever since.
I also picked up 2xMK3S used with about 200 days of print time each for $250 each and they have been going non-stop for a month each also with no problems.
