He was not a perfect man, but was respected by most Americans. He was
likeable, young, a good leader and his assassination was a big shock.
I was 11 years old when our teacher came into our schoolroom announcing he’d been shot. She told us that if we prayed we should pray for his life. Later she announced he’d passed. We were all sent home early that Friday as the buses came to take us home. A very somber time for the whole nation.
