I'm sure everyone has AJ recruiting fatigue but posting either way...
This recruitment has been very public, despite not much coming from AJ Dybantsa and his corner. For his last list cut, Dybantsa had a final seven schools. That group included Kansas State, Kansas, Baylor, Auburn, BYU, Alabama, and North Carolina. Throughout the process, this list has whittled itself down. As of the early signing period, the three schools I am hearing the most with Dybantsa are UNC, Alabama, and BYU.
Speaking with sources around the recruitment, I have consistently been told that BYU is the program everyone is chasing. Sources tell me they were very competitive from an NIL standpoint and the program is making a pitch to prepare Dybantsa for the NBA.
Talking with sources over the past week, I am being told that Alabama is a little more in the mix than what some might have originally thought. The Dybantsa family has a previous relationship with Alabama assistant Preston Murphy, and the Crimson Tide play in an NBA-type system and have had success with skilled players in the 6-7 to 6-9 range getting drafted. Sources recently told me that UNC was still pushing for On3’s No. 1 overall player.
While the commitment timeline has continued to move up, sources tell me that Dybantsa and his circle have already started decision-making mode. One source told me recently that while they would still be surprised if BYU is not the choice, that Alabama is doing a good job.
Prediction: BYU
Confidence Level: 40%
Biggest Threat: Alabama
