I gotta say, it would be awfully strange to see a large group of South Indians rattling off the N word just because
their skin color is a near perfect match to many black Americans.

I think the explanation is pretty simple — Polynesian youth are inspired by Hip Hop culture and have adopted its use and since nobody dares to call out a full grown Polynesian young man and his group of friends it’s just become an accepted thing. I don’t think it has a thing to do with Polynesians having a shared discriminated experience.
