I do think you approach a season differently with a whole new staff and a roster where the staff had no idea how many, if any, key players would return from a year ago. I think you try to build confidence with easier sledding in that situation. Getting beat by Purdue in Mackey isn't bad, but getting beaten by 40 can mess with a team's head. When the preseason is your entire body of work, you better be sure there is at least some reason for the team to trust the process before conference starts.
