I know many here defended Tuiaki as an amazing DC until his ouster, but Kalani was finally compelled to make a change years too late, and the results have been dramatic. That KS has prioritized his buddies' coaching careers over the playing careers of the athletes (among poor recruiting, clock management deficiencies) is what informs a negative perception of his ceiling as the chief steward of BYU football.
If KS can finally get a JH-level coordinator to run the offense, he can just be the lovable figurehead and let those coaches do the actual work of elevating the program. Either his inability to identify areas of deficiency or stubbornness to move on from friends continues to frustrate many of us.
Fans calling for an upgrade over Funk were clearly validated too.
I'll never understand why a segment of the fanbase can't entertain the idea that maybe the OC could be upgraded — instead they take some personal offense and lash out as if these jobs were sacrosanct.
