Even with the expanded playoff it's clear they should just go to 24 or 32 teams
The committee model is not able to be objective like a game on the field is. Just let the teams play.
Then some people whine about "the regular season has to mean something" but that's obviously not true with the committee. They don't care at all about the regular season. They just care about the last week. So let the teams play so we take the human element out of it.
with 24 teams you closely model the top 25 and have 8 play in games bringing the total number of teams to 16 and play it out from there. Or just go to a straight 32 teams with no byes, just home field advantage and drop a game or two from the regular season.
