metrics aren't provided to the committee and that they aren't given directions similar to the basketball selection committee with regards to these metrics), they would consider the "Resume" rankings, "Quality" rankings, Quad 1/2/3/4 W/L records (of course, those quads would need to be defined) and then include things like conference championships, head-to-head records as distinguishing factors for teams that are rated closely together.

IOW, they should be mimicking the basketball selection committee in how they handle this. But unfortunately they don't. It was interesting to see the ESPN talking heads say that in the past the committee seemed to evaluate the entire body of work each week when they released the rankings, but they have slowly evolved to behave much more like the AP voters in the way they handle the rankings.
