I am certain that one of the reasons the CFP committee is downplaying BYU and SMU is because BYU was just independent two years ago and SMU was G5.

The very fact that newbies to the power conferences could win the conference in Year 2 or Year 1 is completely anathema to their constructed reality of dominance.

Winning the conference has to come after years of building and losing and building, like Utah had to do.

For their sanity in their little constructed realities of power conferences, they cannot think that BYU and SMU are anything but flukes.
