Platinum never gets upgrades. Most of my flights the last 6 years as Diamond has gotten first class upgrades. And for me
The extra room is worth it. Plus the additional benefits like gifting my wife and oldest daughter gold status for free bags and upgrades to premium economy along with segment upgrades are worth it.
