Fades are great inside the 10, if executed correctly. The TE was open, but the
ball was poorly thrown, just like the pick on the same play against Utah the week before. The ball trajectory was too flat and not thrown like a fade where it is thrown up high for the taller TE/WR to be advantaged to make the play, or drop it over the top so the WR/TE can catch it over the shoulder. Either way, either the WR/TE gets the catch, or the ball is overthrown out-of-bounds. It looked a bit like Jake was trying to throw it back shoulder, but even then I think that would be the wrong throw based on how the DB was playing the coverage. I also don't necessarily like throwing fades to TEs. If it is a Johny Harline or Dennis Pita level TE, then it makes great sense. Given the players on the field for that play, I don't like that being the first or main read. If you want the fade, throw it up to the wide side to one of our top WR that are proven playmakers.
