BYU is Top 25 in redzone scoring %. And we'd score more if we tried on 3rd down.

I think we are experiencing a bit of whiplash from one game with poor performance in the redzone which is aggravated by how close the game was.

A much more glaring issue is how awful we are at converting on 3rd down.

We are 4th worst in the nation in 3rd down conversions per game, 8th worst in 3rd down conversion percent.

Our 4th down conversion % is high, however. Likely a byproduct of an offensive philosophy that looks to utilize all 4 downs in more scenarios than most schemes.

While our willingness to go for it on 4th may be seen as agressive, I think it has created a passive 3rd down philosophy which is handicapping the offense's ceiling. Play calling on 3rd down is conservative to the point we miss out on explosive play opportunities for an offense that has proven it can move the ball well, especially in 2 minute drill situations.
