That's not what I said.
What I said is that continuing to move the goalposts further and further as an expectation is a mistake.

At the beginning of the season - BYU is picked to win 4 games. In a poll, most CBers agree that going to a bowl would make this a successful season.

But BYU flies through the first 6 games and is bowl eligible really early. Should they just lose the remaining games? Of course not. Feel free to believe they can and should win more games.

At the same time - is the season "ruined" if the team doesn't go undefeated? Doesn't go to the playoffs? Doesn't win the conference championship? Doesn't win another game? Also of course not.

Saying that a 9 win season is "ruined" or "a bust" is just hyperbolic drama.

Perhaps I didn't describe it well. I'm OK with people hoping for more as the team has performed better than initially expected. So sure - expectations have shifted some. And that's OK.

But I also think it's dumb to say that the season was ruined or a bust if they don't make it to the playoffs. As if that was the minimum expectation for the season to be deemed a success from the start.
