I've usually been able to find the person and see that they're a real person, often with BYU content on their social media. Often the phone number returns information that matches. It's not a perfect solution but gives me comfort.

One time, I requested a screenshot of the tickets from the BYU app especially if the name matches the listing.  Again, not perfect but if they are able to product that on short notice, that's helpful.
