Retzlaff called Matt Mitchell the QB coach in an interview recently. He is actually an unpaid offensive “analyst” and A-Rod is listed as QB coach officially.
Big programs like Bama can pull in guys like Sarkisian and Kiffin to be an unpaid offensive analyst for a year. After Jay Hill demonstrated he was establishing a great defense, it seems like guys like Gary Andersen were willing to come jump on board to the defensive staff (as a “consultant” knowing that the defense is turning into something special.
We don’t have that same positive momentum on offense. We kind of had it with Wilson and Hall, but IMO that side of the ball was hurt when we lost Grimes, and had Funk struggling as OL coach. We have a good OL coach now, but it does seem like we are a coach away on offense still.
