Especially when the kicking team is the away team. I imagine people were yelling "punt," but not all our corners or LBs heard it due to crowd noise. The safeties should have known, though.
I'm not sure this actually happened yesterday, but the "receiver" could intentionally run his defender exactly into the path of the ball.
The one problem with this is when he turns his head around in order to do this, the corner/LB might also turn around to look for the ball. Even if the defender thinks it's a throw, he'll go for the "interception," and the WR has to stay away from him at that point to avoid interference, making it an easy catch. But they don't always turn around and might just put their hands up.
