In a 9-0 kind of year, lots of things have to go your way. We have dominated a few games but been living on the razor’s edge—SMU, Ok State, Utah…Kansas
Can BYU build the type of program that can compete each year? I’m optimistic that we can be in games if Hill is here at DC. But we need an improved DL. We need some guys that can heat up the QB without blitzing. And we need to get off the field on 3rd down. That’s been a problem all year.
On O, the QB play needs another step or two up. Sub 60% passing isn’t going to cut it. Mistakes like that INT just cannot happen. We need to develop and involve the TE. Receivers have had way too many drops this year.
Time management has been a major problem all year long. Two weeks in a row of leaving points on the field to end 1H. Wasted timeouts, no flow on offense, and really poor play calling on 3rd down. We have a lot to improve in coaching and personnel. Guess we will have to learn to fix that the hard way, not skipping steps and relying on Lady Luck.
Opportunities like this don’t come around often for BYU. Such a disappointment to be unprepared for our biggest moment.
