Had two open heart surgeries over two years. Age 53 ('19) and 55 ('21).
1st was 4x bypass
2nd was mitral valve replacement
Came out of nowhere. Heart attack. Was about 20 pounds overweight but was somewhat active. Had a stress test 18 months prior which showed nothing.
Took a lot out of me emotionally (especially when I found out I needed to do it again), but I have recovered well. Was away from work about 11-12 weeks both times. Did cardiac rehab both times, well worth it.
