Meaning - I see teams keep a time out over and over again for use in their final drive.
And I always think - use the time out, stop the clock! When I'm on offense, I can rush to the line, hurry up offense, etc. When I have the ball and can control how quickly we do things. Pass plays that get 1st downs, are incomplete, or go out of bounds. If I have the ball I have other ways of attempting to conserve the clock.
But when the other team wants to run clock - it's 4th down and they're going to punt, but not until the clock has run all of the way down - use your time out! Especially if it's before the 2 minute warning/time out - that just gives you one more play to use.
It doesn't make sense to me - I've thought this for years. Maybe there's a reason they really need a time out if they think they need to get ready for an important 3rd or 4th down play. I guess I understand that. But I would think time to run another couple of plays is more important than having an extra moment to talk about what play to run.
