…when we don’t switch. We’re sloppy in those exchanges and both our guys (the guy defending the ball handler and the guy defending the screener) need to clean it up. We’re often slow to react and get caught out-of-position standing and watching in between the guy with the ball and their man rolling. We need to put more urgency and hustle into recovering. Often I see Fouss and Keita both kind of jogging back to their man and they end up behind the action forcing teammates to slide over and help. This leaves shooters open on the perimeter. This will improve as we get more time running Voigt’s D and get quicker making the right read, peeling off and finding the open man.
Another possible issue is maybe with how far our guys who are on the weakside D sag off to help, same with our bigs in drop coverage. Not sure what the coaching staff’s preferences are in how many steps away they should be from their man when they’re away from the ball but maybe we can not sag in so much and stay a step or two closer to our guy so we can close out quicker if there’s a kick out. Not sure what they’re being coached to do there.
