You are simply incorrect.
I've got 35 years of working in a a career, seafaring, where alcoholism is an occupational hazard. I've probably seen and worked with a lot more drunks than you have. I've had to fire a lot of merchant mariners for being boozehounds, and a lot of them did stupid things like Harlan.
