I loved the Rival Right campaign. I love the message that comes from the top of civility, kindness, and love. "Tough guys love." And that's where it should come from. A message of love and sportsmanship. You see it from Kalani, President Reese, and Tom Holmoe. They are all united.
But we all can help this. I read on here of someone walking out of the game that saw some younger BYU fans harassing some Utes on the way out. He basically said he stopped them and told them "Hey, that's not how we act. Cougar fans are better than that." We should be policing our own, in any stadium we go into. I know there are lots of Cougar fans out there that would've done the same.
It really starts from the top. I'm hopeful that Scalley will change the mindset and culture once it's his turn. I am hopeful, he seems like a good guy with a level-head. I hope he is successful, and can also tone down the anger and toxicity on his side, and hopefully we can continue to do the same on ours. It starts at the top, but the responsibility is on all of us. Win or lose, be kind. The anger and hostility just isn't worth it.
