I agree, and it's based on the precedent we saw in the 2012 BYU vs. Utah game.
In that game, the students rushed the field prior to the play being over after BYU missed the FG as time expired. That was called as an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty and the enforced it as 15 yards from the previous spot, automatic 1st down, and BYU was able to attempt another FG (with no time left on the clock). Had they enforced it as a "dead ball foul", it would have been Utah's ball, but with a 15-yard penalty pushing them back 15 yards and Utah could have knelt the ball to end the game.


If you apply the same logic to the most recent game, it would have been a 15-yard penalty and a re-kick, thus negating the TD that Utah would have scored in that hypothetical scenario.
