BYU was going to run the clock down regardless of Utah timeouts. But Utah used both of their remaining timeouts meaning BYU calmly jogged out the ST unit and Ferrin with no risk of being iced and Ferrin drills it.
Whittingham shouldn’t have used his timeouts. He should have sped BYU up and forced BYU to rush things. Whittingham then could have used his timeouts if needed to try to ice Ferrin. Instead BYU was completely organized and ready. The clock was running on the kick play but there was a full 35 second play clock to set up.
Utah wasn’t getting an offensive play no matter what. Whittingham made things much easier for BYU. Maybe clock management was something Whittingham passed down to Kalani.
