1. So glad the rivalry is back. This is what makes college football so fun compared to the NFL. It's just on a different level. It's one of the reasons realignment has been slowly bleeding the sport IMO.
2. Amazing atmosphere. It was looouuuud. Granted the lady bending down to scream in my ear behind me didn't help. Glad she lost her voice for a loss this week.
3. Didn't see anything crazy. Some drunk frat boys flipping off some 15 year olds behind them, the row in front of us doing quick shots before the game after sneaking a flask in, and that's pretty much it. Most people were really nice to us, granted in a passive aggressive "wow, you guys were having a great season" type of way.
4. The student section is the student section. Not much worse than any other one. BYU's is tame compared to others and I don't think BYU fans are used to the drunk college kids.
5. Lady next to me was overly friendly, but I didn't care. She had a kid in the marching band and was pointing her out. We had to promise not to boo the band.
6. Got on trax and there was a Ute fan already plastered, slurring, and loving all the BYU fans around him. "you guuuuys are the beeeeest. I looooove that you're here".
Honestly everyone was pretty nice before the game, though that's because they probably thought Utah was going to get blown out, when Utah started winning and the emotion increased, that's when it started to get a little sketchy, but died down immediately. There is no better feeling in the world than exiting your rivals stadium after a win. The funeral silence is better than any drug out there.
I think for the most part you'll hear the stories of the one or two fans that are bad, but after attending a ton of other college games, the atmosphere for a BYU/Utah game is one of the top in the nation.
