“I would like to apologize for being a petulant child last night. If I were capable of shame, I would feel deeply embarrassed by my actions and comments. If it were possible to bring disrepute onto the University of Utah, my actions would have done so. No 55 year-old man should run onto the field during a play just because he’s really, really mad about a call. And internet trolls have more perspective and better impulse control than I demonstrated at that press conference.
Only the spoiled and entitled head of a spoiled and entitled fan base would think that they’re too good for a conference where they’re currently bottom dwellers. It was wrong of my to misdirect my anger towards the refs when really I’m just upset that Utah can’t win when we have compete on a level playing field. I can tell you that, like a Ute fan having his PAC-12 tattoo removed, no longer being able to use our conference affiliation as a badge of superiority has been deeply painful for all of us here on the Hill.
I wish I could say that my actions did not reflect my true character or the University of Utah, but of course that would be a lie. Instead, I will merely say that I apologize for reminding those who already knew, and for revealing to those just now starting to pay attention, what an embarrassment the University of Utah and everyone affiliated with it is. For this, I am truly, deeply sorry.”
