Bad news: BYU started this game totally unprepared. Perhaps it was the new out of state guys not fully appreciating the rivalry and who the Utes are, who knows? But they got to a slow start because they kept on tripping themselves.
The first half was the worst football BYU has played all year. The defense didn't know what to do (PS- if it is a WB with nothing on film, just assume he's a runner til proven otherwise), and the offense played their worst game all year (debatable between this and SMU).
This is the first time this year that the offense has regressed as compared to previous weeks. That is scary to see.
They cannot play like this against Kansas and expect to win.
Good news:
This was the best defense that BYU will play all year outside of a potential playoff game. This is a good test if resilience and they passed.
Connor Pay is on track to come back this week. Mitchell has done well at center but yesterday, he played very poorly. Having Pay and his experience back will help the run and pass game open back up.
Kansas won't play as dirty as Utah and there should be more running lanes for BYU to exploit.
I'm glad that they won but wow was that ugly!
Please play better next week!
