For a team likely over the Cohen tax, to add a 23 year old pitcher straight into the rotation who would likely be the #1 pitching prospect in baseball, all for a couple million of international bonus money and a ~$700k contract.
Not to mention the amount of Japanese revenue the Dodgers bring in. Now think about having a 1/2/3 in the rotation of Obtani/Yamamoto/Sasaki. Literally 3/4 of the rotation of Team Japan from rhe World Baseball Classic, just missing Darvish.
It will make the Dodgers way better, it will make the Dodgers way more money, and it’s basically for free in prime years. It’s perfect.
