How about a policy change to say tickets will be honored until after halftime? At that point, they turn into open general admission seats. You used to be able to show up after half-time and get into basketball games for free.
I recently attended the President's Own Marine Corps band on campus and arrived at 10 minutes till. I was told my reserved seats would not be honored then, and I was directed to a standby line. I didn't have to pay for the seats, so I was out nothing financially. The point is they wanted to fill every seat, and it worked.
It's just dumb to see seats not filled watching it on TV. I love going to games but can afford it for my family, usually once a season. I get it, corporate seats and whatnot...you can do whatever you want, it's your money. I don't think pouring money into seats and then not attending makes you a better fan than the person who can't afford it-though it might make you worse.
