I remember also for foot blisters there was a special technique for deflating
them, but it was emphasized that it's only for foot ones. I always figured that leaving them intact was to prevent infection, but deflating them can help so they don't disrupt you in other ways (e.g. so you can walk comfortably). Anyway, the technique was to heat a needle in a flame and puncture it from the side, which seems to clearly be intended to prevent infection. My conclusion: if you don't want a blister and can get rid of it without getting infected, no problem.
