the impression that he didn’t do it with any malicious intent. Just a teenager with an undeveloped prefrontal cortex.
The cheerleader was definitely doing a little taunting, and apparently the kid couldn’t take it any longer. He jumped down from the stands and ran up on the cheerleader from behind.
The funniest thing to me was watching the flag fall from its upright position to the ground. It seemed like it went down in slow motion.
The kid turned around and nonchalantly jogged back to his seat while raising both fists in the air celebrating. It seemed like he felt that he had defended BYU’s honor, and I think I remember people were cheering and laughing.
He had no idea the cheerleader was coming to get his revenge, and get it he did. Priddis returned the blindside tackle, and then pinned him down and pummeled him with punch after punch until it was broken up. I remember thinking that it was a little excessive, but I was probably seeing it through my BYU fan goggles.
Anyway, pretty remarkable and funny moment in the history of the rivalry.
