finding ways to upsell. However, not all “upsells” are created equal in my mind. I have never found fault with companies looking for ways to improve their sales as long as the reasons are legitimate and not fraudulent. The trick is, you get to decide what is necessary and what isn’t and I haven’t ever seen Discount try anything fraudulent. The one upsell they try that I have never agreed with is the “all tires at once” rationale. I simply reject it and they move on easily. As long as you figure out for yourself what makes sense and what doesn’t, you get great prices, service and professionalism from them.
The swollen lug is not a gimmick upsell and even if it was, you can reject it. It is not their fault that the manufacturers put lug nuts made of aluminum on their rims. The lugs get swollen and warped over time so much so that the lugs cannot be easily removed with your wrench. That is not ideal and certainly isn’t Discount’s fault. If you want to risk a flat tire which you can’t replace because the lug is whacked, then just tell Discount, “no thanks”.
