An example is BYU-Utah in 2021. We dominated that game, but we only won by 9. We only outgained them by 30 yards. But if you watch the game, you see one team dominate the other from start to finish.

The other end of the spectrum is BYU vs. Portland State in 2016. We won by two scores and outgained them by 150 yards. The game wasn’t in doubt for a single second. But even though we won easily, everyone came away from that game thinking “uh oh.” We looked fine on paper, but the eye test told the real story.
